A lot has been said in the past month about the new Miami Heat trio:
- Ohio-ites (or is it Ohioans?) trashing LeBron
- Steve Aschburner touting LBJ as “NBA’s Favorite Villain”
- Many doubting that the trio could put egos aside and find the chemistry to win a championship
- Many more touting the team champions before the season begins
- Jeff Van Gundy prophesying that Miami would break the Bulls’ single-season win record and not lose two games in a row all season
Whether it’s positive or negative, it seems EVERYONE has an opinion.
I personally believe this is the best thing to happen to the NBA in quite a while. LeBron is hands-down the most exciting player to watch in the league and Bosh has been a media sensation for years with his All-Star antics and controversial Twitter account. While most of the attention has been on LBJ, I’m most excited for Dwyane Wade to shine through the fog of this off season and really take this team places.
When D-Wade played at Marquette, I was living in Milwaukee, which has been a struggling sports town for decades since Hank Aaron and the Milwaukee Braves or Kareem and the Bucks. No, Marquette didn’t win the NCAA championship in 2003, but Wade led this struggling University to the Final Four and single-handedly boosted that program out of the Conference USA into the Big East, arguably the most competitive and exciting conference in the country.
He gave Milwaukee a team to get excited about year after year instead of twiddling its thumbs for 20 years at a time for a winning team. I saw Wade play during that 2003 season and was completely blown away by his dominance. He deserves every dollar, accolade and honor that is given to him.
With that, I thank you Dwyane on behalf of Milwaukans (or is it Milwaukee-ites?) everywhere.
